After a lot of research, Hermione has determined that no ordinary spell or potion can move or disable the giant guard dog that is blocking the entrance to the closed wing of the school. The only thing that can possibly distract the monster is a good fiction book. When the guard dog, named Cerberus, is read a well-written book, it will fall fast asleep.

In order to contruct a good book and put the guard dog to sleep, you must look for certain aspects of this book that make it a quality book.

To accomplish this you will need to divide into three teams, each of which will look at a different part of what makes Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone a well-written fictional work.

Team/Theme: Fantastic Aspects
This team will search for aspect of the book that are "fantastic". A fantastic occurence of characteristic is something that is written into or used in the book that is impossible in real life.

Team/Theme: Conflict
It will be the task of this team to find and classify all of the different cases and types of conflict that are found throughout this book.

Team/Theme: Character Profiles
This team will come up with a brief desription for each of the main characters in this book.

Team/Theme: Resolution
The members of this team will look for how and when the questions posed in the book (or created in the reader's mind) are answered.

Each team should be ready to make a short presentation based on what they have found. Also, each team member should write a short (2-3 page) paper on how their topic makes this book good. The paper should use and cite examples of from the text. Once we learn about all these important aspects of a quality fiction book, we will have all that we need to put Cerberus to sleep.
