Be careful little eyes what you see
Be careful little ears what you hear.
Be careful little mouth what you say.
Be careful little hands what you do.

This is a simple children's Sunday School song, but it packs a big message! How many times has the sweet song of children's voices drifted through the rafters of our churches and we have smiled?

Mankind's biggest problems come from what we see, hear, do and say. Those are the filters of the soul, and as God's children we must be dilligently mindful not to allow evil to drift into the thought process of our being.

Ps.34:14 Depart from evil, and do good, seek peace and pursue it. What is the evil in your life? Is it subtle or flamboyant? Either is as great a sin. Is it passiveness or an addiction? Is is procrastination- putting off spiritual matters untill another day? Is it denial that your sin isn't that great a matter?

Prov.3:7 Be not wise in thy own eyes; fear the Lord, and depart from evil. Do we rely on our own resources? Do we think we're more than what we are? Do we forget that God is greater than we are? Do we ever say,"Aw, I can handle it," and put ourselves right in the middle of evil temptation?

I Tim. 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith. {And see; I Cor. 6:18 and 10:14} The key to God's heart is and active pursuance of His wisdom and love.

I John 2:16 For all that is the world, the lust of flesh, and the lust of the eye, and the pride of life, in not of the Father, but of this world. We can convince ourself that it is just a little sin and we have it totally under control. Whether it is an addiction or lie, it is NOT a part of the Heavenly kingdom.

James 3:5 Even so, the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things. Behold how great a matter a little fire kindleth. The scriptures give a lot of attention to holding one's tongue. It can be as sharp as a sword. It can utter too much, or it can be used to sooth troubled heart.

Romans 2: 7 To them by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life. The Lord looks favorably on those who are steadfast and with each step and though seek Him in all things. In doing this, we step away from evil things to see, do,say and hear....

So in your daily walk, keep that wonderful, little child's song in your heart....

When Sin Takes Control

When sin takes control in a person's life, a couple of things can, and often, happens. It can manifest itself as denial or addiction.. In the situation of denial the person denies that it {the sin} is as bad as it really is. "My sin is not as great as others." Or " It isn't hurting anyone." And, in a sense, this maybe true. But the scripture says that if we break one commandment, we have broken them all. So there isn't a small issue of sin in anyone's life. This is part of our pilgrimage in this life- to flush out the sin in our life and deal with it with repentance. With repentance, there is the determination {a choice} not to fall into that sin again. Without true repentance, there can no be forgiveness for that deed. This does not relieve a person of their responsiblity to forgive. But it does give the person commiting sin, the responsiblity to put that behind them.

Now, a tougher issue is addiction. Whether it is a chemical addiction to alcohol, smoking, or drugs, or a behavioural addiction to gambling, swearing, lying, pornography, etc, the answer to the problem is still the same. You must cast your burden on the Lord.

No, this is not an easy task. We hear of the rare few who have found the Lord and all their addictions faded away. But there are many more that have to fight their way into holy obedience. The Lord has not promised a rose colored world after salvation. He has promised salvation and His presence in your life. He has promised to be faithful and see us through troubled times triumphantly. Triumphant in faith, not necessarily the situation, unless we do our part.It is not that He can't move in His sovereignty. It is that He expects us to pursue that holiness.

The pre-mentioned warning to be careful what you see, hear, say and do is our heavenly blue print to survive this world with purity of heart. It is an aggressive action.

But, even a christian may, and will, fall. We must never deceive ourselves, or allow ourself to be deceived into thinking that we are immune. Thinking that we can venture into a mud hole and come out clean is irrational, as well disobedience. The answer is still the same. Cast it on the Lord.

This is an important piece of the "healing" process of addiction. Take it to the Lord, not your neighbor, brother, friend. True, we are to support each other, for we are told that we are our brother's keeper. But, we are not helping our sister or brother in the Lord if we become their "enabler." This is a modern term that has a biblically based origin. This takes us back to our own responsiblity.

What is an enabler?
And enabler is someone that 1: the person blames for the addiction, or 2; that the person holds responsible for keeping them in line; Thus taking the responsiblity off themself and putting it on to the enabler.

They may have themself convinced that if the enabler doesn't do his or her part, he or she has no chance at over coming their own addiction. {Domestic violence victims are often time enablers.}The scripture says," Baloney!" Cast your troubles upon the Lord...period. Yes, you may have to seek help to overcome an addiction-especially if it is a chemical addiction, but that follows a choice on your part to take the responsiblity, remove the enabler from your life and focus on the true strength in a growing spiritual life.

Do you have denial or addiction in your life today? Have you gone from person to person trying to find the strength to overcome. Our fail-proof advice is; Do not surround yourself with the faulse security blanket of an enabler, Do not go past go, do not collect $200, GO directly to the Saviour and out of the jail of addiction!

If you have an addiction and have made your choice to overcome, here are some resources for geniune help. There is forgiveness and healing at the Lord's feet...

Unfortunately there is another side of addiction. This segment of this page if for the enabler, but the addicted can listen in. Some people who have an addictive personality can also get addicted to the attention that comes with it. This may be hard to swallow, but there is a part of the heart and mind of that personality that craves that attention that comes with an open addiction. It usually is derived from neglect as a child. But again, the answer is the same, Take it to the Lord. He alone meets all our needs. For the enabler, friend or family, do not allow yourelf to be a part of that cycle. That person may not even know that that is what is going on in there own life. But the attention given may keep that person from making that choice that is the key to overcoming. The very best a friend can do is pray....
