The Beginning
I bought my El Camino in 1997 from a guy somewhere in South Jersey. I found
his address from an ad in the Trading Times newspaper. He was asking $800.00
for it. I went to look at it 'cause I didn;t think it was a real SS. When I
got there I realized why he was asking so little, it's a piece of s@#t.
Anyway, evrything was here. The spoiler, buildsheet, wheels, hubcaps, interior and exterior trim, etc. So I bought it. After a few days of owning it I found out the frame had a diamond in it. It was a 1/4 inch out of rack. The windows didn't work. The doors didn't open. The floors were rotted out, all the unboltable sheetmetal was junk. Doors, fenders, hood, tailgate. The quarters were all screwed up. The floors were gone, rotted away from front to back, rockerpanel to tranny tunnel. It was pretty screwed up, but nothing that I couldn't fix.
As you can see, it was well worth the $500.00 I ended up paying for it. An all original numbers matching 78 El Camino SS. The project has begun!!
