Camden Waterfront Plans
Major Attractions

In keeping with the “Two Cities, Two States, ONE WATERFRONT” concept, the Camden Waterfront will be adding major attractions in the near future. These new attractions will join the Tweeter Centre, the Adventure Aquarium, Camden Children’s Garden, Campbell's Field, and the USS New Jersey. These new attractions (and their likelihood of happening) include:

Aquarium Continuing Expansion --- "Steiner + Associates," a leader in the development of aquariums and exciting retail concepts, has taken over the operation of the New Jersey State Aquarium. They have opened a multi-million dollar major expansion of the aquarium called the ADVENTURE AQUARIUM which includes the world's first aquarium hippopotamus exhibit with an underwater viewing area. It also includes a submarine exhibit, a new shark exhibit, a 4-D theater, and soon will include a fabulous new restaurant where you will be able to view the shark tank from your seat. They also have upgraded current exhibits and added many new ones. Also proposed is the addition of a 3-D IMAX theater alongside the aquarium. Expected a few years later, as part of a phase-2 project, shops and restaurants will be added along the waterfront.

The New Camden Waterfront --- The following images show the Camden Waterfront after all the proposed projects on this page have been completed. It will include shops, restaurants, housing, and a proposed hotel and conference facility.

Aerial Tram –-- This project, also fully funded, will bring an aerial tram to link the Camden and Philadelphia waterfronts. Gondola cars will glide over the Delaware River from Camden and, 5 minutes later, will land on the Philadelphia side of the river. These cars will be heated and air-conditioned, and will be able to transport 3000 persons per hour across the water. The project will be coordinated with any future construction at Penn’s Landing.

New Jersey High-Speed Transit System --- This transit system takes passengers between Trenton and Camden, and stops at major attractions along the Camden waterfront.

Luxury Housing --- Construction on luxury housing on the Camden Waterfront is complete and the first residents have already moved in. Built by Dranoff Properties, the housing complex, called the Victor Lofts, is contained in the "Nipper Building," the former headquarters of the RCA company. Retail and restaurant space is located on the ground floor

“Soundwave - The Museum of Recorded Sound” --- SoundWave, still in the planning phases and not yet funded or assured, is planned to be a celebration of recorded sound--an innovative, one-of-a-kind entertainment attraction unlike anything ever conceived. Camden is the perfect site for SoundWave....being the birthplace of the gramophone and the former RCA headquarters. It will feature areas where guests can relive memorable events from the history of sound, radio, television and music, and many other unique attractions. It will also feature a live studio theater and recording studios for professional use.

Current Attractions

Adventure Aquarium --- The Adventure Aquarium features fish from all over the world, including the tropics, the Atlantic Ocean, and the local rivers and bays. Its informative and interactive exhibits are sure to interest the whole family.

Pictures:

Camden Children's Garden --- Right outside the Adventure Aquarium is the Children's Garden. Not only will you find many varieties of flowers, shrubs, and trees, but also many places out of your favorite nursery rhymes, a carousel, a train, and an indoor butterly garden.

Pictures:

Campbell's Field Waterfront Ballpark --- The RiverSharks baseball team is in its fifth season at Campbell's Field in 2005. It seems just yesterday that we were reporting the pending start of construction of a 6000-seat minor league ballpark on the Camden waterfront with dazzling views of the beautiful Philadelphia skyline and the Ben Franklin Bridge. The Camden RiverSharks, a team in the Atlantic League, are playing there, along with the Rutgers University baseball team. "discoverphilly.com" attended the home opener and many other games, and we can assure you that RiverSharks baseball is great family fun.

Tweeter Center --- This outdoor venue on the Camden Waterfront is the site of many concerts and entertainment events throughout the year.

USS New Jersey --- Camden was selected as the permanent host site for the Battleship New Jersey, the most decorated battleship in US naval history. The ship is now open as a major attraction on the Camden waterfront. It is also planned that an indoor museum and memorial will eventually be added to the site.
