My first Cabbage patch 'kid came to me when i was four years old. I received my little two-ponied, brown haired, freckled beauty on Valentines day 1983. As most parents from that year know, Cabbage patch dolls were a hard thing to come by. My 'kid was supposed to arrive in time for Christmas, but my mother knew there was no way I would get it. So she in turn made me a soft sculpture doll in a pink outfit from a 'Cabbage Patch Look-a-like' pattern.

Here is my and my Soft Sculpture doll, I am not sure where she is, when we moved 2 years later, so much stuff got lost.. I'm afraid she was on of those that became MIA. She was truly adorable, and I know my mom worked hard on her.

By Valentines day, my kid had arrived. I was upstairs getting ready for dinner, with my sister, Angelic, who at the time was 10. When we came down to dinner, Estelle Emily was sitting at my seat. How fitting she was for the Holiday. She came in a white dress, with a pink heart, and my sister's came in a pair of over-alls. That Valentine's was by far a great one. I am currently trying to find the picture of Estelle and I. I rooted for 2 1/2 hours, and only found the picture of my right beofre I received her. But, as soon as it surfaces, I will scan and upload it.

The following picture is a more recent picture of Estelle Emily and a friend. At the time I didn't have her in her origional dress, she was wearing a sleeper. I will have a VERY recent pic of her coming this week.

To this day Estelle is still in my posession, and wearing her origonal dress, and origonal shoe, yes her one shoe is MIA in the attic. My mother is a master sewer, and made complete wardrobes for both dolls. To this day the wardrobes exist, and though greatly played with, they keep newly adopted 'kids warm, until a outfit is made to fit their personality.

Estelle was my only Cbbage Patch 'kid until around a year ago. She was kept company by my sisters doll, and a Cauliflower 'Kid my Uncle Mark had bought me. The trio kept my bed warm during the day, until of course this past august when I started collecting. In August of 1999, I had 3 1982-85 Cabbage Patch kids, and 4 Babblin' fun kids. When my neice was born she recieved a Babblin fun kid, and my collection went down. I had to replace her, but couldn't buy just one at the flea market. In august approximatly 20 cabbage patch kids were for sale, when the flea market closed for the winter, I had bought 8 from a lil old french lady, 3 from a elderly man, and 4 from another elderly lady. The remainding dolls were various hard plastic cabbage patch dolls, in various condition.

My collection had now greatly increased, and my dresserss became showcases for my 'kids. My boyfriend who lives 70 miles away, still had flea markets occuring until November. At his I bought several 'kids and restored them.

This was me with one boy, who now if you flip though my pages is in a adorable baseball uniform. I paid $2.00 for him, and his New outfit was $15.00. But he is sooo cute now!

When snow began to fall, I discovered ebay. I now have over 45 'kids. I have gained them in not even a year, but unfortunalty, as any collector realizes, eventually you find dolls you MUST HAVE, but are running out of space. My parents might have 3 spare rooms, but I alread have one whole bed occupied with dolls, and until I have a place I have to sell some. I will be selling, 1/8 of my collection to pay for college tuition when i transfer in the fall, and hopefully buying someday soon, my twin boys.
A twin bed sits next to me, with 35 smiling faces, and shelves throughout my bedroom downstairs have more faces, and everytime I look, I know there is another doll that needs to be in this crowd.
