A quick rant on many things...
Part One: Regarding web pages and fandom:
Web sites: things that make me go "Argh!"
* Gateway pages
* White text on black backgrounds: are you trying to blind me? If you are, then you're doing a good job...
* Pop-up windows: "Vote for my site!!" (I know, my pages have pop-up windows, too, but they're not shameless begging for votes!)
Web sites: things that make me go "Nice!"
* Simplicity. Some designs are so clean and simple...::happy sigh::
* Okay, so I'm easily amused. I rather like the little trailing-graphic thingies that follow my cursor around. Some of them are kind of pretty (!)
Fanfiction: things that make me go "Argh!"
* Bad grammar: it's inexcusable.
* Mary Sues: or, let's make the coolest chick get with the coolest star of the fandom and have him need =her=. Come on.
* Bad characterizations.
* Too much rationalizations for the bad boys. I =like= them bad. Too many "they were traumatized as children", etc, etc, etc. Enough excuses! Maybe they just really, really want to take over the world. Is that so hard to believe?
* OOC-ness (OOC = out-of-character). Ex: From Gundam Wing, Heero Yuy doesn't burst into tears when he wakes up from a nightmare. Nothing will ever convince me otherwise that his character is capable of that.
* Tired themes. Ex: From Highlander: the Series, the Horsemen in Methos' past--MacLeod getting angry at him and then trying to find forgiveness. While there are some really good stories about this, it's been done to death now. There are other things in the series to write about that are just as interesting.
Fanfiction: things that make me go "Nice!"
* Archives with summaries!! The Gossamer Project (for X-Files fic), Seventh Dimension (for Highlander fic), Fanfiction.Net (for just about anything imaginable).
* Originality.
* Sophisticated writing styles. These people have done their homework, folks. I suppose I really shouldn't speak, but I mean it when I say I like a good read where I have to use my head.
Part Two: Regarding Real Life Situations
Things I can't stand:
* Ignorance.
* Blatant stupidity (especially at college....makes me wonder about admissions standards sometimes....).
* Prejudice.
* Conformity. I mean, if trends are your thing, go for it, but don't just because Becky is, okay? We're people, not sheep. And in some cases, lemmings -_-;;
I'm nowhere near done. In fact, I'm probably just getting started here. We'll see... Although, I must say, it =is= theraputic. ^_^
