Frequently Asked Questions about the PAN Library

1. What is the PAN Library and why was it created?

There are a wealth of resources available to patients who want to learn about PAN and vasculitis diseases. The PAN Library provides a system that allows PAN Network members to read or view these materials at minimal cost.

2. What materials are available?

Books, DVDs, VHS tapes. Eventually we hope to make current issues of Rheumatology magazines available.

3. Who can borrow these materials?

Only PAN Network members can borrow materials. If you aren't a member you can join our network by going to our website and clicking on JOIN

4. How long can I borrow materials?

Two weeks (from when you receive the item). It would be nice to provide a longer loan period but we are very limited on copies and there are a lot of requests for that item.

5. What if something unexpected happens and I can't finish in the two week period?

Contact Don, our PAN Library Coordinator. He will help determine the soonest possible date to finish.

6. What is a "holding fee" and why do some items have it and others do not?

Some of the items in our library were donated to us. Some of them had to be purchased. A holding fee is applied to those items the PAN Network had to purchase and the fee helps to ensure replacement if it gets lost or stolen.

7. Where do I send the check and what happens to it when I'm done with the item.

When you request an item you send a check to Don (made out to the PAN Research and Support Network). Don holds this check (it is NOT cashed). When you finish with the item contact Don. Once you have forwarded the item to the next person on the list Don will either destroy the check or return it to you.

8. So the check would only be cashed if I lost the item?

Yes. If you lost it, or it was stolen you will contact Don and let him know.

9. What happens when I'm done with the item?

When you are done reading the book, or viewing the DVD/VHS you will contact Don. He will instruct you where to mail the item for the next person. You will then ship it to that person.

10. Who pays for the postage?

You will be responsible for the cost of mailing the item to the next person on the list. This is the only cost associated with the program. Postal costs will vary of course depending on the location of the next person on the list. You can get an estimate of the postal cost by reviewing the item's size and weight (shown in the graph above) and clicking on the USPS website. It will provide you an estimated calculation of the cost.

11. Are members outside of the U.S. able to participate in the PAN Library.

Sorry, at this time the PAN Library only covers the United States. At some point we may include international members. If you live outside of the U.S. and you would like to get the materials you can contact Don who will let you know who is selling it.

12. Who is the PAN Library Coordinator and how do I reach him/her.

Our PAN Library Coordinator is Don. Email Don at dojeho@netzero.net or call him at 520-790-7178
