RPG Reviews

This is a new section of reviews. We will put more RPGs up over time. If you disagree with something than post on our message board about how you feel. Note the totals on our scale of 1-not so good, 5-average, and 10 being absolutely flawless. Also we round up overall scores so a 7.8 would be a 8. But a 7.4 or below will round up to a 7.5. So every overall score will be a whole or .5 score even though it it not exactly that score.
If you would like to submit a review for an RPG, please send it here. Thanks.

Earthbound...System: SNES... Publisher: APE/Nintendo
This was the first RPG released for the SNES. Instead of having mid-evil type plots Earthbound features modern day towns and weapons such as Baseball bats and frying pans. The grapics aren't superb but the overhead look was nice. The plot and story line is very innovative. The contol is pretty simple, the left hand control option is a nice touch so one hand controls while the other reaches for the popcorn. The battle scene music is rockin'. The game will take you forever to beat, even with the players guide. Make sure you say goodbye to your family before you start playing because you'll be playing for a while. For RPG fans this game is a must.

Super Mario RPG...System: SNES...Publisher: Square/Nintendo
This game is great. The graphics are superb for the SNES and the storyline is different. The music is good enough so that you don't have to mute it. This game is very innovative and unique because...well it's Mario...in an RPG! This game is lots of fun, but it is a little short. And easy. The play control is good, but jumping is difficult and tedious. It can get very annoying trying tojump with 3 dimensions in a 2-dimensional world. Overall, this game is a load of fun.

Chrono Trigger...System: SNES...Publisher: Nintendo
This is one of the greatest RPG's ever created. The graphics are incredible for the SNES and the sound really fits the game. The enemies you run into are varied and interesting. This game is huge, so if it is your first time playing it, it will probably take you a long time to beat. The play control is very smooth and realistic. The storyline is great and it really pulls you into the game. There are endless amounts of magic attacks like the Double and Triple Techs which provide more fun and variety to the game. Each character has its own special type of magic. There are many different paths you can take which means a handful of different endings. This is a great game and if you are an RPG fan and don't have it, go get it.

Pokemon (red,blue,yellow)...System: Game Boy...Publisher: Nintendo
Pokemon is one of those games that you absolutely are hooked on or you can't stand it and every time you hear the name you bash your head agaisnt a wall. About the game: The graphics aren't great compared to the DK series and Conkers Quest. The games Innovation is excellent, Pokemon is the first and only game were you can capture, raise and trade cute little monsters and turn them into destruction power-houses. The music suits the game well, but could use a bit more variety. Considering you have to cacth 151 of these Pokemon creatures (some require trading with the opposite game color game) you will be playing for a while. You also have to use special stones to evolve Pokemon. Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mewtwo appear only once in the entire game so if you miss them the first time, you'll have to restart your entire adventure just to get them. Mew, the 151st Pokemon, can only be obtained using a game enhancing device or you might have won Nintendo Power's contest and they gave you Mew (but only 151 people in the nation won.) Like I said you will either love or hate Pokemon.
