Pat Maloney won the inaugural Recreation District 8 After School Spelling Bee. The event was held at the Carousel House on Belmont Avenue on Monday May 22. A total of five facilities participated with contestants in two groups, eight and nine year old, and ten, eleven and twelve year olds. Pat conquered the latter group. He received a $50 gift certificate as his first prize. The win came as no surprise to his schoolmates as Pat has always exhibited a hunger for knowledge. Congratulations, Pat on a job well done!
