Other: Left arm was amputated after nearly being carried off by a solid shot artillery round at the Battle of Chancellorsville. He was commanding the Co. K at the time. Transferred to the Veteran's Reserve Corps on 10/12/63. Was 1st Lt. in 4th Regt. VRC. Was at Rock Island and then Springfield, IL until muster out. Son Eugene was declared insane and committed to State Hospital in Danville, Pa and was transferred to Wernersville, Pa in 1894. Pension affidavits for Bennett were given by 81st men: Dr. John Houston, Lt. Col. William Wilson, and Lt. John Brelsford.
