The UWA is back in full swing. The competition is tougher than ever, and to be the best, you have to roleplay the best. Every time you rp, you should notice that the quality is getting better. So if you're losing, this is the place to come for some help.
-Terms-
Handler: You, the one who controls the character.
Face: The good guy.
Heel: The bad guy.
Neutral: The guy who can be either good or bad.
Pop: A cheer
Heat: Boos
-Establishing Your Persona-
Are you a heel or a face? Are you neutral? Establishing your persona is the first thing you must do. Here's the thing, when you enter a fed, you can make your self out to be either. For most people to start, it's much easier to be a heel than a face. Why is it easier to be a heel than a face? Basically it gives you more freedom as what to write. As a heel you can attack anyone you please, verbally. It always helps to have an angle, but as a heel you don't always need a reason.
As a face, or good guy, you can't just go off attacking people just for the hell of it and expect people to cheer for you. Say at a RAW, your guy interferes in a match. When you RP, you can't have people cheering for you unless it was payback, and the man you attacked is a well established heel. It also doesn't help to start a feud with another face and for the both of you calling each other names and still have all the fans cheering for both of you. It's hard to carry a face vs. face feud, so try and hold off on those for a while.
A neutral is a guy who can swing on either side. He gets cheered when he goes against a heel, he gets booed when he goes against a face. This is easier than being a straight up face, but you have to keep your opponent in mind as to what you do.
-Do's and Dont's-
Another key to rping is staying in character. If you don't like a guy personally, don't bring it onto the message board. I'd rather not hear about something that someone did to you outside of your persona.
Have you ever heard someone on the WWF, WCW, or ECW straight up call someone a homosexual? Gay? Faggot? No, you haven't. There are sexual preference innuendos such as The Rock's "kumsee-kumsah" line, but don't try and make reference to their sexuality to get over. It makes you sound stupid and straight up immature.
Racial names are another no-no. I don't think this needs an explanation. I think we all understand that.
When you're rping, capitalize what needs to be capitalized. Don't capitalize everything, it makes it look like your yelling everyline. "and don't leave everything uncapitalized" another thing that makes you look stupid.
Punctuation helps too. When you ask a question, use a question mark. When you want to make a point, use an exclamation point. But don't leave sentences without some form of ending.
Don't repeat yourself. You shouldn't say the same thing that you already did. Even in different words people notice these things. It's not quantity it's quality.
-EXTRA-
Description works wonders. Don't over kill it, but describing where you are adds to the length, it adds to the quality sometimes too. Also describing what your character wears helps define his persona. A man who is ripped sounds stronger than a man. A man with scars makes him sound tougher than a man who's face is like a baby's bottom. When the rp is in the arena, and the character's music comes on. Describe what happens in the arena. Do the lights dim? Do lights flash? Does smoke fill the aisle.
Not every roleplay should be in the arena. Add some other places, a bar, an alley, a home. This will help a handler develop his character. This also plays into the description factor.
