I DESIGNED AND BUILT THIS ONE BECAUSE I ALLWAYS WANTED TO HAVE A SCALE MODEL SLOPER LIKE THIS! |
TOMS FLANKER | |
| |
|
THIS FLANKER WAS SENT IN BY A CANADIAN SLOPER BY THE NAME OF TOM NELSON TOM GIVES THE SPEC.S AS FOLLOWS: *"It's basically an Andy Conway design, and is very stable both in pitch and roll. Surprisingly stable, really. *44" wingspan - fully scale outline. *22 oz/square foot loading (wing area is a best-guess). *83 oz AUW. *SD 6063 airfoil - no washout and 0-0 incidence. *Flaperon/taileron controls with 4 servos (good old Futaba S148's). *All linkages fully concealed, with all-flying stabilators at the back. *Balsa built-up fuse with hollow Fiber glass nose cone - lost mold design. Blue foam/veneer/glass wings. Carbon Fiber and liteply here and there. *Probably 150 relaxing "slow-poke" hours into it over the last winter. I intend to build a single seat version, which will probably take half the time now that I've 'been there/done that'. I will also build it lighter with a thicker airfoil for lighter conditions. Live and learn ..." "I have flown it several times, although it has only REALLY soared the last time out - some 20 minutes of windy adrenaline pumping excitement! It DOES take a good blow and substantial hill to soar it. Part of the problem is the thin airfoil and high AUW. The small size with high loading might seem intimidating, but with 3/8" flap I can fly it backwards for landing! With 0 flap it seems comfortable at about 50 - 60 mph, although I have yet to fly it in ideal conditions - have to wait for spring now! And I can't wait to try it in Banff or Lake Louise - Extreme Soaring in the Rocky Mountains - I'll make sure I have the camcorder with me." |

THIS B-52 BELONGS TO GLENN SALISBURY. HE BUILT IT FROM A SET OF PLANS, AND IT JUST LOOKS TOO COOL. GLENN IS FROM THE LAND OF OZ. IF YOU AINT BEEN TO HIS PAGE YET GO SEE IT! THERE IS A LINK TO IT ON THE HOME PAGE. |
