Clarence was a graduate of Indiana State Normal School, Indiana, Pa. Taught rural school for three years. He also served in the army during W.W.I. A graduate of Muhlenberg College, class of 1924, and of Lutheran Theological Seminary, Mt. Airy, Philadelphia in 1927. Awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity, Muhlenberg College 1958. He served on numerous committees of the Ministerium of Pa; he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ashland State Hospital, and also on the Board of Trustees at the Lutheran Home at Topton. He was the first pastor in America to hold a service for the blessing of the fields. Was past president of Steigerwalt clan.
