Was acting dean of Rutgers, 1977-78; associate dean, 1969-77, and assisrant dean, 1966-69. Was member of International Trumpet Guild, and was a semi-professional trumpet playerin his college years. Was member of WSAN Little Symphony Orchestra, Allentown, and cornet soloist and principal cornetist in Allentown Band, 1942-43. Played principal trumpet in community orchestras, including the New Brunswick (N.J.) Chamber, Rutgers Univ. and Bucks County Symphony orchestras and the Plainfield (N.J.)Symphony. He authored and co-authored several college physics textbooks, including Elementary Modern Physics in 1960, and was an associate editor and regular columnist of The Journal of the International Trumpet Guild. Was a summa cum laude graduate and valedictorian of the Muhlenberg College Class of 1943. Received master's degree in 1943 and Ph.D. in physics in 1948, both from Yale Univ. Was member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, Palmer Twp., and former member of several churches, including St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Allentown. Was member of Bridgewater-Raritan, N.J. School District Board of Education, 1957-63, having been president, 1961-63. Was member of Sigma Xi and recipient from Rutgers of the Christian A. and Mary F. Lindback Award for distinguished teaching in 1984 and Outstanding Teaching award of the Society of Physics Students in 1988. The Richard T. Weidner Physics Prize, established in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Weidner, is awarded each year to an outstanding graduating physics major at Rutgers. Dr. Weidner also was recipient of the Muhlenberg College Alumni Achievement Award in 1994. He attained rank of lieutenant junior grade in the Naval Reserve during W.W.II.
