NEW OWNER FOR TIGERCATS!
Robert F. Young
Born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1954, Robert F. (Bob) Young is a huge football fan, established businessman and now, the new owner of the legendary Hamilton Tiger-Cats Franchise. As the founder of several successful international organizations, Mr. Young has over 25 years of marketing, finance and computer industry experience. His impressive track-record combined with marketing savvy and acute business sense, are sure to translate into long-term success for the franchise.
In March 2002, Bob launched Lulu Enterprises (www.lulu.com), an online marketplace for digital content, allowing businesses, educators, artists, musicians, and others to publish and sell their own books, images, multimedia and music. Lulu helps content creators and owners bring their work directly to market without surrendering control of their intellectual property.
The Lulu brand is derived from the concept of a "lulu," which is an old-fashioned term for a remarkable person, object or idea. The enterprise is driven by Bob's strong commitment to information access as a foundation for knowledge advancement, whether in education, computer code, or other realms.
Bob is also the co-founder and former Chairman of Red Hat (1993-2000), a Nasdaq traded company, and continues to serve as a director since leaving the company. Bob was responsible for the early success of Red Hat, a company that is credited the world over with driving the global, industry-wide adoption of open source development practices.
An open source visionary, Bob's efforts developing Red Hat into a household name earned him a number of accolades, including being named one of Business Week's "Top Entrepreneurs" for 1999.
In addition to co-founding Red Hat, in 1999 he founded The Center for the Public Domain, a non-profit foundation that supports the growth of a healthy and robust public domain of knowledge and the arts. A venture philanthropic enterprise, The Center for the Public Domain has contributed to the founding of several organizations that study, nurture and secure the health of the public domain through major gifts, grants and donations. These efforts have strengthened the public community of shared knowledge and culture across many sectors - technology, law, medicine, academic research, education, media and the arts.
Bob graduated from the University of Toronto in 1976 prior to beginning his high tech career in the computer finance arena.
