Well, school has started and my six year old is in first grade now. I’m having a hard time with this all day thing. This is just another step on the long road to her independence. Sometimes it’s hard to be a mom. I miss her for many reasons but one of them is because she helps keep her two-year-old brother, affectionately known as the "wild man", busy. Therefore, I would like to thank Donna and Sherri, our Outings team, for helping me fill the void. We’ve already gone on some great outings and you know it’s all worthwhile when your little one looks up at you and says "That was fun!" Sometimes it’s great to be a mom!

I also want to thank everyone who attended the meeting last month and especially all the officers and committee people who made everything happen. Thanks also need to be given to those who signed up for positions at the meeting. I’m happy to say that we will be having three parties this year! But, please keep in mind that there are still positions open. Everyone one of us has special talents to contribute that will only make our group better and stronger.

Parma Council of PTA’s will be offering Chairman’s Workshops on Wednesday, September 20 at Normandy High School. The General Meeting will be from 7:00 – 7:30 p.m. and then there will be two one-hour workshop sessions. The following workshops will be offered:

Blood Bank/Health & Nutrition

CBS/Bulletins/Publicity

Cultural Arts

Drug & Alcohol Awareness

Environment

Ohio PTA Convention

Parent Education/Special Ed.

Safety

If you have an interest in one of these areas it’s a great way to decide if you’d like to take on that position. I think the only one of these categories we have covered is Special Ed. Any PTA member is allowed to attend the workshops.

Also, for anyone who wants to learn more about the how-to’s of PTA , our Council offers a schedule of leadership events. If you attend 8 of the 14 events you will receive a leadership pin. Holding an elected office or chairmanship qualifies as one of the eight requirements. Attending the aforementioned workshops counts as another.

We are lucky to be in the Parma Council of PTA’s. They are a very strong council and are known throughout the state as such. They offer wonderful educational opportunities through these workshops and I highly recommend participation. It’s great to be able to do it now while in Early Childhood to prepare for future involvement in school PTA. I have all the literature for anyone interested.

Also, I have voter registration information given to me by PTA Council. Please see me at the meeting if you’re in need.

Last but not least, I want to thank Sherri Spagnola for organizing the Indians Concession Stand Fundraiser and or course all the people who worked. Our group is another $500 dollar richer!

Now that we are back to school, enjoy the hustle and bustle! It was great to see everyone at our first meeting, especially all of our new members, WELCOME! I am looking forward to seeing all of you this month at our second meeting. Our speaker will be from JoAnn's etc. She will be bringing us some great ideas for Halloween costumes for our youngsters. Hard to believe Halloween is next month. So come to the meeting and be prepared for goblin season. This month we will be in the Media Center at Hillside Jr High. See you there. "Treasure the Memory" of a walk around the block!

We hope you are enjoying the field trips we have had so far. Our attendance has been excellent at the outings. The professionals who host us appreciate this. Thank you for calling if you were unable to make an outing. Remember it is never too late to ring us—even that morning or afternoon.

We will be having a boatload of family outings this month just by the nature of what is happening in Cleveland in October. We have taken the liberty of inviting the Parma Cluster to the Look-about Lodge on September 27th because we need more 3-5 year olds to make this outing FREE. So please call me if you want to bring a neighbor with kid’s this age or some extended family of your own (kissin’ cousin’s outings).

Walsh Farms has offered to discount our outing further by making children 5 and younger FREE and charging only $1.50 for adults so vouchers for the difference will be issued at the meeting. These can be used as payment for another outing of your choice. You will include the voucher with your payment for future outings.

For a casual lunch outing, come and meet at the North Royalton Burger King for lunch on October 9th anytime after 11:00 a.m. This will give mom’s some time to talk while the kids play.

We wanted to have all the kid’s enjoy NEOTA day on Oct. 13th so grab your bowling balls and shoes and come with us to Cloverleaf Lanes—10:00a.m. Don’t miss the Seven Hills Fire Dept. on the 17th. We will tour the newly constructed facility at 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.

For the circus outing on Oct 28th, members should be aware that you can use the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey gift certificates. We received one by mail when Nicole was born. It can be used for free admission, but I have to send in the certificate with the check as one payment in order to facilitate getting the seats together. Please bring your certificate to the meeting and it can be combined with your check for the total number of tickets. Please be SURE that you can go before purchasing as there is no way to get a refund once tickets are purchased in a block. If you have questions, call me 216-573-7360.

To end the month, we will be having our first community service outing. For our kid’s Halloween Parade at Mt. Alverna Home on State Rd. on Oct 31st, we are going to ask mom’s or dad’s to donate a package of 14 count Sun-Maid raisins. We can put these in the kid’s pumpkins and the children will give them to the residents of the home as we parade from floor to floor in costume. When finished parading, we will have a social with punch and cookies. If you are wondering if you can dress up too, the answer is yes! So let’s have some fun.
