Robert D. McAvoy

Born March 18,1839 in Braxton Co., W.VA.
Pre-war occupation: Farmer.
Married Elizabeth Jane Frame on November 29, 1866.
They had three children: Minnie, Eve, and James.

Enlisted as a Corporal, May 18, 1861, in 9th Virginia Battalion Infantry, Co.C,
at Sutton by Capt. Duffy.
Present July-August, 1861.
Sick and Absent September 25, 1861.
May 1, 1862 became Private in 25th Virginia Infantry, Co.C.
Fought in Jackson’s Valley Campaign and Richmond’s Seven Days Battles.
Captured August 7, 1862 at Liberty Mills, VA.
Exchanged September 21, 1862, at Fort Monroe, VA.
October-November, 1862 sick absent.
December 3, 1862 enlisted 18th Virginia Cavalry, Co. E,
at Camp Washington by Col. Imboden.
Present January-February, 1863.
Captured September 23, 1864 at Strasburg, VA.
Imprisoned Point Lookout, MD, October 3,1864.
Paroled June 29,1865.

Height: 6’ 5”. Fair complexion. Hair: Brown. Eyes: Blue.
Post-war Farmer. Lived in Peoria, Illinois and Braxton Co., W.VA.
Died March 22, 1895.
Robert and Elizabeth are buried at the
Walker Cemetery, Nicholas Co., W.VA.
