Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC as the sister organization to Five women chose not to embrace what the other African American sororities established, and chartered Zeta Phi Beta Sorority to encourage the highest standards of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and exemplify the ideal of Finer Womanhood. Since its inception, the sorority has chronicled a number of "firsts" among established black sororities. In addition to being the only sorority constitutionally bound to a fraternity, the sorority was the first to charter international chapters in West Africa and Germany, the first to form adult and youth auxillary groups, and to organize its internal affairs within a centralized, national office, administered by a paid staff.
Kappa Omega Zeta graduate chapter was founded on July 31, 1981 and is located in Norristown, PA. Soror Vivien Hansbury and Soror Alean Boyce were the founders of the chapter. They felt it was a need to charter another graduate chapter in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. The Zeta Amicae and Zeta Archonettes of Norristown were organizaed on July 11, 1982. Since it's chartering, KOZ has served as the hostess chapter for the 1983 State and Regional Leadership conferences, and the 1990 State Leadership conference. In 1984, Pi Mu chapter of Millersville University was founded and chartered. In 1985, KOZ sponsored Mu Kappa at Indiana University of PA. In 1992, Psi Xi chapter was chartered at East Stroudsburg University, and in 1994 KOZ sponsored Mansfield University. We currently have reclaimed members in the chapter and are striving to continue reclaiming sorors. We, of Kappa Omega Zeta, have taken an oath to uplift and move forward our organizations, ourselves, the condition of our race and communities.
