MIXED PICKLES' ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Bob Skiba

[Bob Skiba / Ruth Parker]
Bob with Exec. Dir. Ruth Parker
Bob happily combines his two loves - historical research and performing - in the study and recreation of historical and vintage dances.

He comes to vintage dance from a strong and varied background in ballet, tap, modern and ballroom techniques. Bob also has a degree in linguistics which facilitates his study of original source material.

For the past 8 years, Bob has been the choreographer, movement coach and a stage director for the Minneapolis based baroque opera company Ex Machina. While in Minneapolis he served as an artistic director for the Twin Cities' Vintage Dance company, Silver Moon. After moving to Philadelphia in 1997 he formed his own performing group, the MIXED PICKLES Vintage Dance Co.

Bob is a faculty member of the Abington Art Center in Jenkintown, PA, teaching modern and vintage ballroom dance. He lectures regularly and conducts workshops on historical and vintage dancing as well as baroque acting style and period movement for universities, early music ensembles, orchestras, history groups, theatres, re-enactors and dance companies across the U.S. and Mexico.

Bob is the author of "Here, Everybody Dances," the story of mid-19th century dancing in Minnesota. His latest project is a translation of the earliest existing European stage acting manual from 17th century Latin to modern English.
