Skaterman & the Box of Death
RD 1 Box 132-D Centre Hall, PA 16828

Hailing from Penn State University in State College, PA, Skaterman & the Box of Death is a one-man, one-machine musical comedy duo. The live show features Skaterman (John McNulty, 28) on guitar and vocals, backed by pre-recorded bass guitar, backing vocals, and drum tracks. The Box of Death is a plywood box with a jack-o-lantern style face that lights up, or "sings" with the background vocal tracks, like this:

Drawing from musical infulences such as Ween, REM, and They Might Be Giants, Skaterman writes quirky and catchy pop songs. Cover songs with altered lyrics, similar to Weird Al songs, often will make their way onto the set list as well.

Between songs, expect to be treated to off-the-wall comedy that will remind you of a good episode of Seinfeld or the Simpsons. Skits involving headless lip-synching Barbie dolls, bits of stand-up comedy, and staged fights between Skaterman and his sidekick the Box are all par for the course.

Skaterman & the Box have shared the stage with Atom & his Package, Rex Hobart & the Misery Boys, and many other DIY artists.

The debut CD "Coffee Coaster 2000" which features 13 songs was released in March, 2000. A National Tour of small venues including VFWs, basements, clubs, and coffeehouses is planned for May-August 2000.
