Self-Defense Classes
Despite the wide variety of crime prevention and personal safety devices available, it is important to recognize: You cannot rely solely on any device. Knowing the tips and techniques that have been described here will improve your odds for both avoiding an assult and for getting away unharmed. It is highly recommended you take a self-defense course. I want you to seriously consider this resource because it not only gives you a range of specific skills to use in a variety of threatening situations, it also supports the kind of attitude change that builds the confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness that tells a potential assailant to look elsewhere-you are not a victim. The most important thing to learn in such a class is how to prepare yourself mentally to attack an assailant with ferocity and determination. This can be extremely difficult for some people to do because most of us and especially woman-have been culturally conditioned not to fight. Any self-defense course must teach you to overcome this conditioning and become vicious and unmerciful when the situation requires it. The course must also teach you practical fighting tactics. To find the course that's right for you, contact your nearest Rape Crises Center or your local police department's crime prevention unit. Or look in the Yellow Pages under "karate" or martial arts instruction". Enroll your children in a self-defense course, too.
