Sabman's Sabbath Story
Welcome Behind the Wall of Sleep. This
is my Black
Sabbath Story.Black Sabbath is composd of
many
players. Over the years many rock titans
have come
and gone. The four original members,
Tony Iommi- Lead
Guitar, Bill Ward- Drums, Terry "Geezer"
Butler- Bass
Guitar, and the legendary John "Ozzy"
Osbourne-
Vocals.
These four have changed the face of
heavy
metal forever. They have influenced most
heavy metal
today, many bands have said their main
influence
musically is Black Sabbath. Such bands
as Metallica,
Pantera, Type O Negative, Megadeth, The
Cartigans,
etc. have claimed Black Sabbath as a
main
influence.

As the years wore on, the Sabs Drifted
apart, Tony
Iommi and Geezer Butler were writing all
the songs,
and Ozzy became disinterested, and fell
into a
harrowing fall into drugs and alcohol.
He rarley
turned up for rehearsals, and soon the
other Sabs
where tired of him, and they decided to
fire him.
At that Point, Black Sabbath was
going to
dis-band. Tony wanted to start a new
band, and play
with Bill and or Geezer. Tony was
talking with Ronnie
James Dio,
a vocalist from a band called Elf, and
most recently, Rainbow. Dio wanted to
have a session
wth the Sabs, and everything felt right,
and Dio
joined the band. They would proceed to
make 2 studio
albums, Heaven and Hell(1980), and The
Mob
Rules(1982), Plus a Double album live
recording
entitled, Live Evil(1983). Several
arguements during
the mixing of this album, Departed
drummer, Bill
Ward(during Heaven and Hell,due to
severe alcohol and
drug problems) Was replaced By Vinny
Appice, who
departed from Black Sabbath in 1983,
along with
Ronnie James Dio, to form a band titled
"DIO". This
left Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler,
and keyboardist
Geoff Nicholls, With no drummer, and no
vocalist. The
bands manager, Don Arden suggested the
Sabs get Deep
Purple's Ian Gillian.Ian
Gillian & The
Sabs Bill Ward
also returned to drum
in Sabbath once again, but was unable to
tour due to
health problems, so they brought in
ELO's Bev Bevan.
Black Sabbath put the metal world in
shock by
releasing the album "Born Again". This
tour was a
really bad time for Sabbath, They lost
some
integrity, and some critics called them
"Deep
Sabbath". After this tour, Geezer Butler
left, and
did Ian Gillian, leaving Tony, and
always faithful
Geoff Nicholls.Tony Iommi's

Tony
then put together a
solo
project, called "Seventh Star", which
the record
company would not release unless it bore
the name
Black Sabbath. After this, Tony Martin, A
well
credited Vocaist, Joined the ranks of
Black Sabbath,
And made the album,"The Eternal Idol".
Then drummer
Cozy Powell joined, and that brought on
the album "The
Headless Cross", and the album "TYR".
The 1992
Re-unionIn 1992,
Dio, Geezer, and
Appice returned to
make a reunion album, "Dehumanizer", and
followed it
with a world tour. Dio and Appice left
again to Work
as DIO, and Geezer remained to Make an
album called
cross purposes.After this, an album
called
"Forbidden" was made, and it did not
match up to
anything Sabbath had ever
done. However judged on its merit, is an awesome display of talent.
In 1997, Black Sabbath reunited
with the
Heavy Metal Madman, Ozzy Osbourne, at
his summer rock
tour, "Ozzfest".The lineup included,
Tony Iommi,
Geezer Butler, and Journeyman drummer,
Vinny Appice.
and Ozzy. This brought on an amazing
turn in Sabbath
history. A new Live album, Called
Reunion. This also
included Two new studio tracks, and a
tour followed. Shortly After, Black Sabbath headlined the summer rock tour, "OzzFest" in 1999, and 2001. A new studio album is rumored, however it is unlikely
Where will the road end for Sabbath? Who

of Sabbath
