Certain AWS stations record maximum temperatures too high, with the most frequent reason being improper placement and/or shielding of the sensors. The list below gives an approximate number of degrees (F) for each station which frequently reports incorrect high temperatures. Please note that this list covers stations IN PENNSYLVANIA ONLY! Terms such as couple, few, several, and numerous are used to describe (approximately) how much higher the maximum temperature, displayed on the station, is from the actual true temperature. Note that under completely overcast days with low clouds, high temperatures can be considered accurate. They can also be considered accurate on days of strong Cold Air Advection (CAA). Lastly, all stations not listed on the table below should be considered to usually have accurate high temperature data (within a degree or two). Important to note, low temperature readings ARE accurate on all stations, even the ones that report incorrect high temperature readings. The list below will be updated when needed, to reflect the latest trends of stations.
