I tend to complain a lot, but I'll reserve that for my letters:-) Here, I want to point out that I very much DISLIKE e-mail. For me, it's too quick and too shallow. I haven't the time to waste on exchanging notes in cyberspace. I'd rather invest in a pen-friendship with someone of like mind.
If you're a pen-pal "collector", please don't waste an effort in "acquiring" me. I do, in fact, have quite a few pen-pals, myself. HOWEVER, I NEVER send form letter replies to my friends, nor do I write them notes. I have yet to meet a "collector" whose main aim isn't to see how many people will write to them. They care not for quality, all they want to do is add you to their tally.
Just in case you're shy of a true pen-pal (that is through SNAIL mail) because you believe the letters must be hand-written, please don't fret. I haven't written more than a sentence or filled out a form by hand since I was in college - many, MANY moons ago. My theory is, if G-d had wanted us to write everything out by hand, Bill Gates would have chosen to be a carpenter by trade instead. All my letters are written ON computer, but SENT through SNAIL mail.
If you're a female, about my age, who's avid letter-writer, are fluent in English and aren't from or in the US, I'd LOVE to be your pen-pal! Maybe you'd consider being mine?
But it's up to you to write to me first. Don't bother e-mailing, I garauntee I won't even check it until it's very old. And once e-mail is old, what good is it?
