ML Playoff Game 3

Campbells Boathouse Restaurant   4
Hagan Funeral Homes    3

Game Recap:

Campbells Max Daugherty and Hagan's Drew Robinson matched up in this 1st round series with a classic pitching duel. Daugherty's array of off-speed pitches, and Robinson's flaming fastballs would feature 2 entirely opposite pitchers in their approach to getting outs.  Robinson took the 1st frame of the duel, dialing in and striking out 3 in the 1st, yielding only a single to Andrew Sposato.
Hagan then went to work on Daugherty, plating 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st off of 4 straight hits before Campbells could record an out.  It looked as if Campbells ace didn't have his best stuff and Hagan could pace themselves to an easy 1st round win.  It turns out, Daugherty never got that memo!  He would settle down and go the distance, spreading only 2 hits over the last 5 2/3 innings, allowing no more runs and earning his 1st ever Major League playoff win with an impressive 78 pitch complete game gem.

Campbell's eventually adjusted to Robinson's heat and got to him in the top of the 4th.  Sposato led off with his 2nd hit of the contest, a single that lit a fire on the Campbell's bench.  A costly Hagan error led to 2 men on base for the White-hot hitting Bryan Pazulski.  Paz delivered with a double up the middle and knocked in 2 to put the game within reach for the Boathouse Boys.  Paz would come to score on a delayed steal rundown between home and the plate to tie the nail biter of a game.

With the game still tied in the 6th, Robinson handed the ball over to crafty lefthanded reliever Michael Cristaldi.  Daugherty led off the frame with a double to the gap in left-center, and set the stage for the Campbell offense.  He moved up to 3rd on a sacrifice by Brendon Ricciardi, and would score on a play at the plate on a hard hit ball by Paz, that Robinson couldn't get home in time to nail Daugherty.

There was still time in the Home half of the 6th, for Hagan to mount their comeback.  It looked as if they had a shot, as Tommy Ziegler worked a 6 pitch at bat and sent a shot deep to the alley in left.  Campbell's Josh Grady, a late game defensive substitution, came streaking across to make the catch and kept Hagan's at bay.  Daugherty needed only 2 more pitches for the final two outs.

Campbell's looks ahead now to take their 3 game winning streak, to the second round of the Winners bracket with a matchup against the heavily favored 1st place Baker Printing.
