Buckley, Water Ice...Power Dodgers to Victory
Media (AP) - Liam Buckley became the first Dodger to record a Grand Slam since Steve Finley (Oct. 2, 2004 vs. San Francisco), helping to power the Dodgers to an 18-15 win over the Marlins on Saturday. The win moved the Dodgers to a 2 - 0 record, good for first place in the National League.
The Dodgers surged ahead early as Max Cummings & company continued their torrid hitting but the pesky Marlins never quit and eventually trimmed the lead to three runs heading into the last inning.
In the top half of the last inning the Marlins retired the hot hitting Dodgers in order. And as the Marlin home crowd frothed themselves into a fever pitch, the momentum had noticeably swung in favor of the home team. Enter Shane "I won't complain about another called third strike again as long as I live" Kokoska. Kokoska steadied himself after some difficult moments earlier in the game (trying to catch a short hop with his chin, striking out looking) to notch his first career save. "I didn't have my best stuff today but when I saw that tray of water ice brought into the dugout, it really pumped me up.".
Foul Balls - Watching the Flyers hammer the Pens from my hotel room in Brussells. It's no Delco, but waffles and fine chocolates abound. Mmmmmmmmmmmm...waffles and chocolate.
