Games Behind (GB)

Statistics can be useful in calculating the number of games a team is behind the first place team .

The Games Behind is calculated as follows:

GB = ((games won by the 1st place team minus games won by any other team) plus (games lost by any other team minus games lost by the 1st place team)) divided by2

Examples:

If the Reds have won 15 games and lost 4 games and the Blues have won 9 games and lost 10 games we would have:
        GB = (15-9)+(10-4)/2 = 6 games behind
        The Blues are 6 games behind the Reds.

If the two teams involved do not have the same number of games played, the GB would not be a whole number, example:

If the Reds have won 15 games and lost 4 games (total of games played 19) and the Browns have won 8 games and lost 10 games lost (total of games played 18) we would have:
        GB = (15-8)+(10-4)/2 = 6.5 games behind

        Then the Browns are 6.5 games behind the Reds.

 

 

Standings / Average / Win Average / Pct

The standings are calculated to the nearest thousandth to determine the Win Average (AVE) or winning percentage.


AVE = Total of wins / Total of games played

Example: A team that has won 15 games out of 23 games has a winning percentage of .662 (15 divided by 23).
