NL Playoff Game 4

Braves    12

Rockies    6

It started out as a great battle between the 7th place Braves and the 2nd place Rockies.  In the end, the Braves managed to pull away with 5 runs in the last two innings to win the game 12-6.

The Braves came out with a lot of focus in the game taking an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  David Clark drove in the first run for the Braves and Ryan Brennan plated two runs on a hard ground ball down the third base line scoring Solomon Bayuk and Clark.

The Rockies, however, struck right back with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st to tie the game.  For the Braves, Brennan settled in and held the Rockies scoreless in the 2nd inning after getting two strikeouts and a groundout to end the inning.

The third inning proved to be a big momentum inning for the Braves as they scored 3 runs and took a 7-3 lead.  After a big hit by Jack Borbee and a couple of walks, the Braves sent 9 batters to the plate and took the lead.

Borbee and Bayuk both pitched well holding the Rockies in check in the 3rd and 4th innings.  Herbie Twiss also stepped in and pitched very well.  Twiss pitched the last half of the 4th and 5th inning getting 5 strikeouts in his innings of work.

Going into the 6th inning, the Braves were holding an 8-5 lead.  The Braves came out hitting in the sixth.  After Daugherty reached base on an error, Devon Moore walked.  Bayuk then grounded into a fielderís choice with Moore getting tagged out at 2nd on a great play by the Rockies.  Jack Borbee then drilled a line drive into the gap in left center field scoring Bayuk.  Next up, David Clark hit a long ball to the same spot in left center scoring Borbee.  After a walk, Chris Amanís groundout to first base scored Clark giving the Braves a 12-5 advantage.

In the last half of the 6th, the Rockies got a lead off walk by Dan Hopson.  Jack Pandolfi then flied out to deep short as Bayuk made the grab.  After a great at-bat by Richard Hess, he managed to get a walk after hitting numerous balls just foul.  Ethan Broadhurst then came up and drilled a ball into right field.  Matty Brennan managed to grab the ball and fire it to 2nd base.  Bayuk took the throw and got the tag down on Broadhurst for the 2nd out.  Daugherty struck out the final batter of the game to seal the victory.
