NL Playoff Game 3

Cubs    16

Twins   12

In a back-and-forth, typical no-fingernails-left National League playoff game, the Cubs and Twins battled back and forth all night. The Twins jumped out to a 6-1 lead, thanks to the hitting of Jake Newsome and Austin Peters before the Cubs tied it at 6. The score see-sawed a bit with the Twins holding a 12-11 lead after four and a half innings. Manny Ruffin, JD Smith and Jules Marmer delivered big hits for the Cubs. The Cubs scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and Mark Dombroski closed out the game. Chris Cosenza and Sam Freedman were the other Cubs pitchers. Newsome, Peters, Jack McCarthy and Sitka DeLapp pitched for the Twins. A heroic effort was turned in by McCarthy, who had his lip split open on a wicked hop, then with his team needing him, he stepped up to the plate - his uniform splotched in blood - and delivered. He was then whisked off to the hospital for treatment.
