ML Game 16
Haganís Funeral Home 6
Campbellís Boat House 5
Hagan Rallies Past Campbell
On a spectacular, sun-splashed spring afternoon, Haganís Funeral Homes put together a stirring last-inning rally to squeak by Campbellís Boat House by a 6-5 score. Pitching dominated the early part of the game. Campbell scored one run in the top of the first inning on a John Feruzzi single. They carried that one-run lead into the bottom of the fourth when Haganís Will van Norden scored the first run for the home team. Campbellís responded immediately, scoring four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Campbellís charge was led in equal parts by the timely hitting of Christian Miller (2 for 3, BB) and Brian Treston as well as the dreaded Haganís error bug. Haganís responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a single run following base hits by Bryan Leonard (3 for 4), Calvin Samson (2 for 3), and Neil Geosits.
Campbellís carried that 5-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. Thatís when their defense, which had been solid all day, gave Haganís a little opening, and Haganís took full advantage. Haganís tied the game on the strength of hits by Brian Gross and Connor Martin as well as two Campbell errors. With one out, Martin on third base, and the score knotted at 5, Leonard bounced a hard ground ball to third base. It was fielded cleanly and fired to home plate, but the speedy Martin just beat the throw to pull out the victory for Haganís.
Both teams had outstanding pitching. Daniel Enterlin went the distance in a superb performance for Campbell. He scattered 11 hits over six innings and gave up only one walk while striking out 3 Haganís batters. Ethan Heller went five strong innings for Haganís, yielding only 4 hits to go along with a season-high 8 strikeouts versus just 3 walks. Rob Brown came on in the top of the sixth. He retired 3 of the 4 batters he faced with an economical 10 pitches.
