Hagans Rolls Into Major League Championship

Hagans Funeral Home rode the pitching of Hunter Tierney, the red-hot bat of Kyle Tommasino, and outstanding team defense into the championship round of the MLL playoffs with a 6-2 win over Gardner Fox Associates.  Tierney struck out nine batters and went 5.33 innings before butting up against his pitch count limit.  He left the game in the able hands of John Owens who secured the last two outs in just four pitches.  Kevin McGarvey, Eric McGough, Sean Heidig, and Bryan Mizell shared the pitching duties for GF, combining for 12 strikeouts.

Haganís offense went to work early, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  With the bases loaded on a Tierney single and walks to Owens and Connor Martin, Tommasino continued his playoff hitting tear by stroking a 2-RBI single to right field.  Hagans added two more in the second when Bob Juliana and Neil Geosits led off the inning with back-to-back singles.  Another single by Tierney and a walk to Owens loaded the bases with one run in.  Thatís when Tommasino delivered his third RBI of the evening, on a bases-loaded walk.  Hagans added two more in the fourth.  Brian Gross and Tierney both walked to start the inning.  Although a nifty 6-4-3 GF double play appeared to squash the rally with just one run scored, Hagans bounced back with a Connor Martin bunt single followed by a Tommasino double to the fence in the right-centerfield gap to capping his 4-RBI performance.

GF broke up Tierneyís no-hitter and shutout in the bottom of the sixth inning.  With one out, McGough doubled and McGarvey cleared the bases with a 2-run blast over the right-centerfield fence.  But it was too little, too late for the regular season champs
