ML Playoff Game 1

Haganís Funeral Home:  3

Carman Insurance:  0

3 Is A Charm For Hagans

Third-seeded Haganís Funeral Home rode a 3 for 3 performance by Kyle Tommasino to a 3-0 win over a very game Carman Insurance team in the opener of the Major Leagueís 2007 playoffs.  It was Haganís 3rd win in 4 meetings with Carman this season.  As the score indicates, the game was dominated on both sides by outstanding pitching.  Hunter Tierney provided another strong outing for Hagans, spreading one hit and three walks over five innings while tallying 10 strikeouts.  John Owens hurled the final inning for Hagans, facing just four batters.  Daniel Furman matched Tierneyís 10 strikeouts while spreading just four hits over 3 2/3 innings for Carman.  Josh Bannister went the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit.

Hagans scored all of the runs they would need on this night in the bottom of the first inning.  After Tierney and Connor Martin drew walks and with two outs, Tommasino hit a seeing-eye bloop single to right field.  Tierney and Martin were running on the crack of the bat, scoring easily from 3rd and 2nd, respectively.  The only other score of the game came in the bottom of the 5th inning when Owens led off with a solo blast over the centerfield fence hitting the Port-A-Potty next to the Scoreboard.  Carmanís Timmy Aman snuffed out another Hagans rally when, with 2 out and 2 on, he snared what looked like a sure RBI single off Neil Geositsí bat with a spectacular diving grab in shallow centerfield.

Other players notching hits for Hagans were Brian Gross and Martin, both with bunt singles.  Kevin McGowan had a single and Kevin Mohollen stretched an outfield bloop into a double with some aggressive, heads-up base running for Carman.
