In a tight contest the Cubs were able to come back in the 5th inning to beat the Yankees, 6 – 5. Both teams played well, with the game up for grabs right up to the end.
The Yankees jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. Willem Hotham led the Yankees offense, going 3 for 3 and driving in Colin Mohollen in the 1st and 2d innings. Peter Solomon also drove in two runs and Bryce Haver had an RBI. Colin Mohollen and Patrick O’Kane both pitched well for the Yankees.
The Cubs pitching and defense dug in their heels, holding the Yankees scoreless in the last three innings, while the offense chipped away at the score. Joe Cimino got the start, and struck out 3. Julian Bonsall-Shepard pitched two strong innings in his debut, allowing only 1 run while striking out 5. Will Lochetto retired the side in order in the 4th and pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th to pick up his second win of the season. Howie Viguers paced the offense, driving in three runs. Angelo Lochetto had two doubles and Herbie Twiss doubled to lead off the 5th. This set the stage for Gerald Dati to drive in the winning run with his second hit of the game.
