ML Game 44
This final regular season game for both teams was a dandy!
Moppert struck first in the bottom of the 1st with a run on back to back 2 out hits by Kevin Bosco and Kevin Dougherty. Campbell’s answered back in the 2nd on hits by Christian Miller, Lee Miller and John Ferruzzi. Moppert was able to shut down this potential big inning by defending a 1st and 3rd steal attempt with a perfectly executed 2-1-6-2 double play. Moppert then posted 2 runs in the 3rd inning on a couple of walks, a hit and a bobbled grounder. Moppert took a 3-1 lead into the 5th when the Campbell hit attack began. Matt Rushton began the inning with a single (his 3rd of 4 on the night) and one out later Shane Williams launched a home run deep into right center field to tie the score.
The hits continued with Eric Poynton ripping a single, Dan Grandieri drawing a walk and then Christian Miller knocking them both in with a double. Campbell’s then added to their lead with another run in the 6th with hits coming from Rushton (of course) and Poynton. With the score 6-3 Moppert had one last at bat. The fireworks started with a couple of walks. Ian Campbell then laid down a nice bunt forcing an overthrow of 1st base which scored a run and put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Will Manganiello then hit a long drive to left scoring both runners to tie the score. David Splain then sacrificed Manganiello to 3rd base. With one out Campbell’s countered by issuing a couple of intentional walks to load the bases. One out later Alex Rehoric stood in and took one in the left arm forcing the winning run to score.
This was certainly an exciting game for players and fans alike.
Moppert – Bosco 85 and Dougherty 27
Campbell’s – Williams 86 and Poynton 44
