AL Game 35
Meenan Oil 11
Quotations broke open a 2-2 third-inning tie to build an 11 run lead and withstood an 8-run fifth-inning rally by Meenan Oil to eventually win 14-11.
Quotations was led by pitcher Kevin Bosco who struck out the Meenan side in the first and ended it by making all three outs in the field to stop Meenan in the sixth. Quotations started the scoring in the top of the first when lead-off hitter John Ferruzzi walked, stole around to third and reached home on a passed ball. Meenan pitcher Nick Boleto struck out the Quotations batters in order in the top of the second to keep it at 1-0 and then led off for Meenan with a triple and then stole home. Bosco struck out two more and short-stop David Ruffini fielded a grounder from Frank Gentile to end the inning at 1-1. Ferruzzi scored again in the third after walking and stealing around to home and Meenanís Bobby Juliana answered in the same way for the 2-2 tie.
Quotations broke out with 5 runs in the fourth as David Ruffini opened with a single and scored followed by Nate Engleka, Kellen Edmondson, who singled, and P.J. Quinn who singled for his first RBI of the season. Bosco singled to get on but was cut down at home by Meenan. Quotations continued scoring in the fifth getting 6 more runs as Ruffini, who again singled, Edmondson, Justin Troilo, Hugh Reynolds, Timmy Divis and Kevin Bosco crossed over. Ben Geiger and Hugh Reynolds contributed RBI singles. Meenan bats exploded with 6 hits in their half of the fifth, including an inside-the-park home run by Nick Linnen.
In the sixth Hugh Reynolds again singled for his second RBI bringing in Engleka for the Quotes fourteenth and final run. Meenan managed 1 more run in the last inning as John Day singled and eventually scored on an RBI single by Jeremy Gonzalez. However, Bosco, who had moved to third, made a double play by catching a fly ball and throwing out a runner too far off first. He then snuffed out a hard grounder down the line by Boletto for the final out.
Besides Boletto, Day, Linnen and Ian Campbell pitched for the Oil. Following Bosco, Ferruzzi and Edmondson pitched for Quotations.
