A real barn burner took place Wednesday night in American League action. Dougherty & Conrad got past a feisty Axis Financial 7-5. As been their pattern the majority of games this season DC took an early lead with a two run first. David Splain lead off with a line drive base hit to center, stole second. After a walk to Billy Ankrum, Shane Williams singled to right to drive in the first two runs of the evening.
David Splain and Sean Hedig went head to head for three innings in a classic pitchers duel. After three the score was DC 2 Axis 1.DC built their lead to six with two in the fourth and three in the fifth.Joe Murray, Lee Miller, Kevin Dlugos, and Grant Jamgochian were in the middle of the action that helped DC build their lead to 7-1.
But never say die was the phrase of the night for Axis. Kyle Tommasino, Kalvin Simpson, and Sean Hedig put Axis in great position in the sixth. They scored 4 and if not for another defensive web gem by Danny McColl who is quickly becoming a defensive specialist this game may have gone the other way.
