Wednesday battle in the American league featured two of the teams fighting it out for the top spot. Fabian & Baber (3-1) vs. Gardner/Fox Associates (2-0) and as predicted the game was a fight to the finish.
GFA jump out quick with a run in the 1st, but FB answered back in the 2nd to tie the game. FB then took the lead in the 3rd, lead by hits from Dan Furman (2-3, 2-runs 3-rbi) and Singt Sang(1-3). GFA put up it usual big inning in the 4th with a 5 run explosion lead by Nolan Dirienze’s (1-3, 2-runs, 4-rbi’s) second Grand Slam of the season and Kevin Dougherty’s (1-3, 1-run, 2rbi) double which put GFA in the lead 6-3. FB wasn’t to be denied and pushed across 2 runs in the bottom half of the frame to close the gap to 6-5. GFA put the game out of reach in the 5th with another 5 run burst with key hits from Brian Gross (3-4, 1-run 3rbi) who ripped a triple to clear the bases. Bobby Majewski joined the hit fest going 2-3 and scoring 2 runs. Philip Kotcamp (2-4, 3 runs 1rbi) came in to pitch in the 4th and after striking out the side in the 5th, closed the game in the sixth after an amazing catch in center field by Justin Barker off the bat of FB’s big stick Kevin McGarvey, GFA prevailed 12-8.
