AL Game 17
Kish Funeral Home 7
Axis Financial 6
Kish Funeral Home came
back from an early 5-0 deficit to defeat Axis Financial 7 to 6.
Axis jumpd out with five runs in the bottom of the first off Kish starter Brian Mizell with the key hits delivered by Brian Berry and Will McCarthy. Mizell's teammates surged back with six runs in the next frame with the big hit coming off the bat of Shay Roddy as he delivered a bases loaded triple deep into the left field corner. The run support bolstered Mizell and he held Axis to only one run and one hit over the next two innings. Meanwhile, Kish was only able to produce one more run against the tough pitching of Axis' Sean Heidig.
The last three innings turned into a pitcher's duel with Josh Bannister for Kish and John Owens for Axis throwing strikes in the mid fifties. Bannister faced the minimum of nine batters in a perfect three innings of work. Both pitchers were helped by solid defense as aggressive Kish baserunners got caught stealing four times in the last three innings. The play of the game was made by Kish third baseman Pete Scheuerman when he dove to make a shoe string catch of a low liner off the bat of John Owens. Scheuerman also had two hits in the game for Kish.
