HI , My name is Jim Teiss, thanks for stoping by and checking out my Site. |

When I started this project in Oct 2000 ,I didn't know to much about servers,I read an article on building
a home server fromPC Mechanicit described using a wideband hi-speed cable modem , a home built server,
and home network all sharing the same hi-speed line. Well I have a hi-speed DSL line (which is terrific)with an internal modem, so I put together a separate server computer, found a top notch server program called Xitami
(It is free) and Wham O! my server was up and running. Now the problem anyone with DSL has with Verizon
or anyother DSL provider is that you can't have a static IP address only a dynamic one ( it can change every
time you fire up your DSL line) and thats not good. So this is how you over come this problem.
1st you go to DynSite and down load their IP address updating Shareware program ( which is excellent) then go back and select a free Domain Server from the list posted on DynSite ( I use Domain Host Service and my domain name is ( jmt.dyn.dhs.org ) .After you configure DynSite all you have to do is to reboot your computer , activate your DSL line and DynSite will go to the DHS server and automatically update your address ,so that anyone punching in your domain name will go directly to your site/webpages. Also another problem you will have with Verizon/ and other providers is this. they tell you that your DSL is on all the time, Wrong they lie !, if you don't show activity they will cut you off. And if you show activity for more than 24 hours they cut you off also which forces you to reboot your DSL, Nice isn't it?. Now there are many programs out there which will simulate activity , so just look for one.
