1719 - Johannes Binkley arrived in 1719 with a part of immigrants from the Canton of Bern and settled in a locality known as Old Hickory [Manhiem Twp., Lancaster Co., PA] just north of the present city of Lancaster.
1723- From the book East Lampeter Township on page 893 is the following:
"Felix Landis was an old patentee under the London Company, having acquired four hundred acres of land by patent in 1723. He granted part of this property to John Binckle, as then written, who appears to have been a relative. John Binckely died intestate in 1757, leaving three sons, Felix, Henry and Christian Binckley. At the division of the property Felix Binckley took the water-right and land adjoining, and in 1767 built the mill. Felix died in this county, and as there are many graves of Binckleys at Mellinger's graveyard, it is fair to suppose that he was buried there also, although no stone bearing his name can be found. After the death of Felix Binckley his immediate family moved to Dauphin County and bought a farm at the junction of the Swartara and Spring Run, where their descendants still reside. This property remained in a collateral branch of the family for some time after the movement of the family of Felix, the builder of the mill. There is a stone dwelling-house upon this mill property, supposed to have been built by Felix or John Binckley, but it has no authentic date, as all records have been lost. Of the descendants of Felix Landis there are no records, as the present large Landis family trace their descent from Benjamin Landis."
1731- From the book History of Lancaster Co., PA by Ellis and Evans in 1883 on page 899-900. "Graff's Mill.-Felix Landis, in 1719, received a patent from the sons of Penn, Proprietors of the province, for four hundred acres of land situated on a branch of Conestoga, county of Chester, province of Pennsylvania. This land was on Mill Creek, farther south than the tract of Boughwalter, and separated from it by the tract of Michael Danner. In 1731 he transferred part of this tract to John Binkley, also a Palatine, who died intestate in 1760, and his son, Felix Binkley, took one hundred and thirteen acres and ninety-six perches at the settlement of the estate. and in 1767 built the mill at Millport, on Mill Creek. This mill remained, as far as can be learned, in the hands of the Binkley family, but not the immediate descendants of Felix, Sr., until about the year 1820, when John Binkley sold it to Jacob Charles. It remained in the Charles family until the first day of April, 1839, when the administrators of Jacob Charles sold it to Jacob Fritz. From him it passed into the hands of Daniel Potts, May 23, 1839. In 1857, Samuel Curtis, Esq., bought it from Daniel Potts, and sold it to Isaac Graff in 1882. The old mill erected in its place. The old corner-stone was preserved, and placed in the corner of the new engine-house."
1739 - From the book Pioneer Settlers of South East Pennsylvania by Eschelman, page 268, chapter named Lancaster County German-Swill Naturalized, show that Johannes Binkley, on 19 MAY 1739, was naturalized in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Johannes is one in a very long list.
1749 - The following is the will of Johannes Binckle, dated 23 MAR 1749. The original was written in German and Reglind Binkley of Bloomington, Indiana made this translation in June 1985. [Pat Smith writes that "it does not appear to have been probated as his oldest son, whom he mentions extensively, died several months later. It would appear that the will was never used as Johannes is listed as dying intestate in 1757.]
"This is my will and testament as follows: I, Johannes Binckle, declare that my wife Barbara should have the third part of all movable goods and income of the plantation until my son Johannes turns twenty-one. When the oldest son takes over the place its value shall be appraised and the third part of it given to my wife Barbara. And the eldest son as well as all the other children shall divide up the rest in equal parts among them. My wife shall have her widow property as long as she lives. Whoever takes over shall give her a room and a stove and fifteen bushels of wheat and three bushels of corn and there bushels of barley shall be given to her annually. A fat pig weighing a minimum of a hundred pounds and thirty pounds of beef as well as two barrels of cider shall be available to her every year. Furthermore a cow of her choice among all the available ones on the property shall be kept for her use as well as four sheep and she shall be entitled to use a fourth of the garden. Also a fourth of flax and one of the best rows of trees in the orchard shall be at disposition. All these things shall be made available to her every year. All the children shall be maintained out of this property until they are able to provide for their own living. All of this is my last will, written on the 23 of March 1749. Johannes Binckle, witnesses were Henrich Schenck, Beni Landis, Jacob Dauner"
