William Alley (c 1794 - ? ) - Born in Kent Co, MD. Served with his brother James Alley in the War of 1812. After the war he migrated to Queen Anne's Co and married Martha Stewart in 1831. Their first child John was born that year. Later children included Samuel (1842) and William (Billy) (1844) and possibly two daughters. One may have been Mary Jane Alley.

Listed in the 1840 census of Queen Anne Co. as William Ally (sic). He is shown as having a wife (20-30 years old) and two sons (one under 5 and one 5-10 - presumably John). An older woman (70-80 years old) is also listed who may have been his mother Esther.

Martha Stewart

David K. Price - Chesapeake City, MD.

John Thomas (1836 -1864) - Born in Center Township, Greene Co, PA. Married Emaline McIlvaine in 1853. Children: George (1853), Kes(z?)iah (1855), Clark (1857), and Elizabeth (1861). Enlisted 1862 at the outbreak of the Civil War in Pittsburgh to serve three years in the 18th PA Calvary under Col. Brien. Killed in action at age 27 late in the war (1864). Left his widow, Emaline, with four small children to raise alone. Elizabeth Nancy Thomas was three years old at the time.

Emaline McIlvaine (1836 - 1904) - Born in Greene Co, PA. Married at 17 to John Thomas. Widowed at 28 with four children under age 11. It is said that Emaline could neither read nor write. On papers prepare d to document her status as a veteran's widow, her name is misspelled McVania and McVay. A year after John was killed, she was awarded $8.00 a month for a widow's pension. The pension was stopped in 1904 when she passed away.

Edward Larkin (1828 - 1914) - Born in Mountrath, Queens Co., Ireland. Edward, one of ten children, lived on a family-owned farm called Shanderry. Conditions in Ireland were dire at that and, since the farm would be inherited by his older brother Matthew after his parents died, Edward emigrated to America before he was 20. He settled in Western Pennsylvania and married Nancy Morissey in ----. Their children were: Martin, Edward, Dennis, Bridgett, and Anna. Most of what is known about the Larkin family in Ireland comes from a letter sent to Edward in 1912 by his younger sister, Anne Larkin (Dunne), on the fiftieth anniversary of his departure. She never saw him again but remembered a small bible he had given her as a going away gift. Larkins continue to live at Shanderry to this day.
