Ebba Grön

If I would compare Ebba Grön to Sex Pistols everybody would flame me. But there are parallels, in the sense that if you have to name one important punk band, you will probably say "Sex Pistols". Likewise, Ebba Grön is the most important Swedish punk band, at least during the early years 1977-1982.

The band was founded in 1976, with Thåström (guitar and vocals), Fjodor (bass) and Gurra (drums). The first three singles and the first album was raging, simple, three-chord punk, but with every chord in the right place. The 7" Staten Och Kapitalet / Ung & Kåt is probably the most important (and one of the best) 7" ever released in Sweden. The Kärlek & Uppror strived in a somewhat more "mature", post-punk direction. After this, Stry (keyboards and vocals) joined the band, adding even more post-punk influences, and plenty of keyboards. The Sheisse / Tyna Bort 7" and the album Ebba Grön continues in this direction. The band broke up in the end of 1982, and the Samlade Singlar album, a collection of all the 7" and 2 hard-to-get-tracks, was released shortly thereafter.

Since then Thåström has released very good stuff, with the bands Rymdimperiet, Imperiet, as a solo artist and now with the band Peace, Love & Pitbulls.
