"DOIN' DUNBAR AS 'LIAS' MOTHER"
THE PERFORMANCE - 4th grades, Family & Senior Audiences

This one-woman theatrical production connects the humor and pathos of Paul Laurence Dunbar's most loved dialect poems. A heartfelt monologue brings to life the hardship and sentiments of a Black woman's life on a plantation in the 1800's. The finale unites the audience in a rap-along rendition of one of Dunbar's popular standard poems. Highly interactive and musical. Self-contained set and sound system. Requirements: Electric outlets, lighting and bottled water. Program playbill available.

"DOWN ON THE FARM WITH GRANNY GOOSE"

An exciting, uplifting and highly interactive musical storytelling treat for the little ones! Featuring the choral and standard poems of Paul Laurence Dunbar, among other poets. The children participate in helping "Granny Goose" by acting out the poetry while learning about life on the farm. A fun way for youth to explore what life next door to Old Mac Donald may be like, great imaginative poetic storytelling with the "cousin" of Mother Goose and her specital girlfriend, NYOTA KUNGAA!

Harriet Tubman comes to life as Ms. Lasana tells Harriet Tubman's story in the first person; her childhood as an enslaved African, and what incidents motivated her to eventually becoming "The Moses Of Her People." A mesmerizing journey into the life of America's most courageous woman. "Harriet Tubman...Her Story" is a featured attraction for AMERICAN HERITAGE STUDENT TOUR, Inc's, Underground Railroad Tour in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

DOIN' DUNBAR! The Workshop I
Multi-cultural In-class 6-8 week residency
$150 per class/session
The workshop features a review of Paul Laurence Dunbar's life and the importance of his work in American Literature. Diversity is explored through the use of his experimental prose in Irish and German dialect. African American issues are addressed on his impact on society and how, before mass media, he gave voice to those who had none. Theater, English and History are combined in a creative exchange to interpret Dunbar's unique style of writing. This workshop culminates in a brief showcase on the merging of his works to modern musical interpretations, performed by the participants.

Performing Arts Interdisciplinary 6-8 Week residency.
$150 per session/class
Elementary to College Level, view Dunbar's creative life and the truth about slavery
on video. Students study, and perform a standard and a dialect poem for presentation in a school assembly program for Black History Month or as a multi-cultural activity. In-depth proposal available for consideration. Middle school teachers can apply for a Micheal Jordan Diversity Grant online!

Juneteenth originated in Texas and continues to be a celebrated as the official end of slavery. Using poetry that "story" tells of life after "the surrender"…ALWAYS FREE! is based on the value of education and the power of reading. A uplifting celebration that uses Dunbar's folktale prose not heard in 'Lias' Mother or Granny Goose, it is a dynamic storytelling experience for any time of year.

Handy, Jay Unger, Mark O' Connor, Timbaland, Peter White, Najee, West Nkosi, and Jamaican saxophonist, Dean Fraser!
