The River's Edge
A man walked
down to the river
never to return.
Local gossip has it
a lost love had made him turn.
He went to think things through
but found he could only cry.
Just as all that water runs
all he loved was passing by.
Hard years flow by like white caps
along the river's edge.
Never will he gain them back
as dreamers have alleged.
Tears roll down his empty face
as fast as the river flows.
He glares down at the river
feeling something no one knows.
As he gives into his sadness
then he'll end it all right there.
He'll take care of all his troubles
no one is around to care.
Anxiety and dispair
overwhelms his little frame.
As he gives into his desire
no one will know his name.
A man was pulled from the river's edge
nobody saw his plight.
All they saw was a stupid man
who took away his life.
