Pictures from beginning of the Century

These are scan pictures from the Reading Rail Road. These were taken from the vaults of Reading Company. This picture is from the turn on the Century, aproximately 1898. The engine is of the Camel Back Class, notice the wooden enginner's cab ! This type of cab was later outlawed in the early 1900's.

This is a picture of Reading Railroad Terminal being built, aproximately early 1890's. The terminal was located between 11th and 12th streets in Philadelphia, Pa. This looking into the terminal from the outside. The back of the picture is where the Reading Company's Corporate offices were built. This train shed is NOW " The Pennsylvania Convention Center ".

This is a view of the back of the " Train Shed " from ground level. This would be aproxiately where Race Street is today. Can you fine the " Gin Pole " ? That is equal to today's tower crane.

This is a view of Reading Terminal from the corner of 12th and Market Streets. Notice the lower level of the Reading Company's Corporate Offices being built.

We will be adding to this site when the pictures become available. So come back often !! If you have any Reading railroad pictures you would like to add to this site, or any railroad pictures please let me now.
