Just a few myths about Chapelsnap's name
Chapel Snap
During the flood of 1866, the newly formed town's only church was ripped apart by high winds, and was subsequently never rebuilt. The Chapel was, indeed, snapped, but that's not where the name came from.Chap El Snap
The existence of famed spanish vigilante Chap El Snap has never been proven. A set of bones beneath a sombrero inscribed "El Snap!" was found in an unmarked grave last summer during Chapelsnap's annual Dig Up The Cemetary BBQ. Many jokes were made about "Putting some ribs on the griddle", but the skeleton turned out to be that of Chapelsnap Prom Queen 1963 Edna Winkhouse, who'd disappeared that very evening. The sombrero's origin is unknown. Interesting, sure, but it has nothing to do withChapelsnap's name. Still, the myth persists. Cha Pels Nap
French explorer Cha Pel Snap did indeed cross through Springfield in the mid 1600's, but never through what is now Chapelsnap. Monsieur Snap actually perished in Weltsville (otherside of Springfield) from a burst goiter (Not his own.)
Choople Snoop
For the 1000th time, Chapelsnap has nothing to do with the "Choople Snoop", the 60's dance inspired by the relatively obscure Motown hit of the same name.

I'm not even going to dignify this myth with a response. Bill Oakenthorpe called it this by accident at a town meeting when he was 5. It's persisted.

I always heard that this was the location of the famous nap taken by UnitedStates Amateur Sleep Champion Jerome "Chappy" Chapels. I understand that themoniker "Chappy" referred not to his last name, or to the state of his skin but to the fact that he always slept in chaps. The motivation for that is still a bit hazy. Just thought you'd like to know. How come Chapelsnap doesn't have an e-mail address?
