BETH'S THOUGHTS FOR THE MOMENT
?
REALLY??
There used to be an SNL Weekend Update skit called REALLY? I would like to give you my version of this skit.
The people who discount global warming are noting the names of Iceland and Greenland. REALLY? They say that NOW the climate has been reversed so that Iceland is green and Greenland is covered with ice. REALLY? Did they never learn that the Vikings tried to hide their discoveries of new lands by giving them names that would discourage others from coming to the fruitful areas by naming them with polar names and encourage emigration to less fruitful areas by calling them by pastoral names? Really.
There are people rejoicing over the death of an abortionist. REALLY? They say he “sowed what he reaped”. REALLY? May I suggest that a devote Christian would not kill someone in a church, regardless of what sin they thought they committed? Isn’t justice the province of God, not man? Perhaps those who oppose abortion rights should rethink their role in the Kingdom of God. Really.
Dick Cheney has been on TV defending the techniques his administration used to get information for use in the war on terror. REALLY? He and his daughter are arguing that torture yielded results to keep Americans safe. REALLY? I hope we are all alive when “time will tell” about the effectiveness of “enhanced interrogation techniques”. Really.
Okay, that’s enough of the Really segment. Personally, I have finally earned my Master of Arts degree in American Studies with a B+ average. My thesis dealt with how the media coerced the public into agreeing to the war in Iraq after the events of 9/11. Let me know at my email below if you would like to read it.
If you are interested in my thoughts from the past years about other historical and not so historical moments in our lives, check out my column in the Crestiad (link at bottom of page). It’s called “Just blowin’ my mind”. Check out the rest of it while you are there. It is an excellent college newspaper.
I have written a poem that I started during the rain storm on the Friday after the 9/11/01 attack, and finished it Sept 21. It's a little long, but I think it says a lot, so when you have 5 minutes, take a look at 911 (Silver Skins and Paper Flags)
Old Miss: A Story About September 11, 2001 "IT IS NO LONGER A CHOICE BETWEEN VIOLENCE AND NON-VIOLENCE. IT IS A CHOICE BETWEEN NON-VIOLENCE OR NON-EXISTENCE" Martin Luther King Jr.
My trip to Florida was amazing and I have pictures here of some of the highlights, not to mention a review of my dolphin swim in the Crestiad (issue 8, early Feb,05; see link below). You can check out dolphin swims here Dolphins Cove .
On the Eve of War ~~ March 19,2003 A Poem
This is a short Christmas story I wrote several years ago. It features Tori Amos as a fairy who teaches A meaning of Christmas. I hope it enlightens you as the New Year begins. ICICLE: A Christmas StoryI also have Upside Down still available. It's about 40 pages long and in a printable format if you so wish. Feel free to let me know what you think.

She has been an inspiration to me and I'd like to share that with you. Rachel Siani went to the same community college I attended. Her body was found thrown from the Turnpike Bridge over the Delaware River. This is her story.
