This scroll is in the Italian Renaissance style of Attavante. It was created on opaline vellum with tube gouaches and raised gilding on a gesso base. The finished size was 11x14 outside dimensions (with an illuminated size of 9x12 inches.)

Wording:

Upon on the battlefield of Pennsic XXXIV
On the XIVth of August, AS XL, two thousand and five by common reckoning, within the boundaries of the Kingdom of AEthelmearc
--name of victor--
did distinguish himself on this field by being the victor in our Grey Beard Tournament. Prowess is measured by ability & wisdom not merely by youth & vigor. Our bodies bear witness to the trials & burdens of half a century or more, yet our venerable age has not dampened our spirit or our determination to arm ourselves & take to the field. With pride & honor we did enter this list~ as much to declare victory over time as to determine the most skilled among us, who we honor with this scroll in token of triumph.
