The Outer Ear
Sound is caught by ear flaps, or auricles
which concentrate the sound waves and lead them into a long tube inside
the head called the ear canal (external
auditory meatus). Sounds are vibrations that move through the air and
produce sensations in the ear. The rubbery folds and ridges of the outer
ear (also called the pinna) help catch the sound
waves as they move through the air.
