STORM REPORT - CUMBERLAND COUNTY- APRIL 19, 2002

On Friday, April 19, 2002 an advancing cold front triggered a line of showers and thunderstorms in Central PA around 1500 hours. These storms later became more severe and moved into areas of Eastern PA, NJ, and DE. The storms began to form around the area of Altoona and gathered strength as they moved east. The following photos illustrate the line as it moved north of Mechanicsburg, PA in Cumberland County near Harrisburg.

View looking north from along the PA turnpike toward Perry County. The center of the storm passed north of the Mechanicsburg area and caused 77 MPH wind gusts in Perry County. Looking east toward Harrisburg, the outer edge of the storm can be seen approaching Harrisburg (about 10 miles to the east).
